I note that the endoftape cut off feature on the j300 and j500 seem to depend on the pinch capstan pulling the feed reel toward the heads which causes a 34catch34 to catch and pop the machine out of play mode

Sometimes not enough torque is created to cause the machine to pop off and it continues to pull the tape and this can and has in my cases broke the tape off
