Pros & Cons
Pros
The sound is great with lots of options to equalize and maintain steady volume. The sound quality is perfect (as long as you utilize professional grade headphones) when mated to my sony mdr-ex300 vertical earbuds, the soundquality is excellent.
The sony walkman has great bluetooth and headphone connectivity. It works with any bluetooth or set alone speaker system or through your car-home-mobile or a very good pair of ear buds. This device is perfect since i needed a device with no camera, mi... Read More
The touchscreen works well. Swiping left on the now playing screen is so useful - the bookmark feature is great! The user interface is clean and simple and battery life is excellent.
It's no different than buying a new car and finding that it’s got “quirks’ in relation to the vehicle you replaced. There's just an overall greater sense of sophistication and quality that comes with the higher priced buy-in.
Cons
This mp3 player is a complete letdown. These earbuds are almost impossible to get individually and also are quite overpriced.
Highlights
Quality
All in all, i'm pleased with the player.
Sound quality is great for my insensitive ears.
Even with quality equipment on the back end, couldn't make up for uninspired sound coming from front end.
Cons - no easy way to create playlists in the player with the loaded catalog, i have to build the list on my pc then upload.
Price
Fiio isn’t bad but this sony player is way better for a number of reasons.
I've purchased numerous walkman's over the past 10-15 years, and was initially put off by the price of the newest ones.
That may be why the older one cost $80 more seven years ago than the new one today.
Packaging/appearance
I did not use the sony software to load music files on the nw-a55.
At first i thought this was caused somehow by using the hard buttons on the side.
And the software is necessary for updating the firmware on the nw-a55.
Competitiveness
I am running this music player through a w-king x10 speaker and it sounds much better than the fiio m7 that i have.
I loaded my entire music library of variable bitrate mp3s onto a 256gb microsdxc card for when i want to carry my entire collec... Read More
I don't need my music player to also play games or have a 4" screen for watching videos or a selfie camera.
(update 10/19: when using usb dac audio has a short/sharp roll-off which no normal means of disabling it outright as its a filter.
