Pros & Cons
Pros
The 6b and 8b pencils are great for creating deeper * without the brilliant graphite sheen of graphite artist's pencils. B is so close to soft charcoal - virtually indistinguishable from general's 6b charcoal pencil but with less crumbling and cleaner... Read More
These are much blacker (which is what you want from soft graphite) they don't seem to produce the dreaded graphite shine. Solved burnishing like a champ.
These things are great for sketching on their own or adding shadows to a graphite drawing. They are great at shading and detailing while still being easy to erase.
They're wonderfully smooth, very dark, feel great in the hand. They're still soft enough to blend well and keep a realistic tone. They sharpen easily.
I almost want to retire my derwent onyx but i really like how thick and heavy the derwent pencils are. Hood quality pencils, though. But still more smoothly than civilian pencils.
Cons
Will not buy these again.
Highlights
Quality
These really do seem to be an excellent hybrid between the rich dark of carbon/charcoal, and the smoothness of good graphite.
These allow me to achieve darker values with less pressure on the paper and the reflectivity is gone.
God knows how much i hate when pencil leads break while sharpening; and i’m sweet on all my pencils!
I was worried about fallout or smearing like charcoal, but these pencils don't crumble or streak like most carbon based tools.
Price
Great set of drawing pencils for the price.
This is a very practical set of black pencils with good value for the money.
I want what i pay for and i’m sick of not getting it.
I know it's a bit expensive bit definitely worth it.
Packaging/appearance
I’m just sick of not getting the pack that i order.
I can only assume they got something wrong or different due to a mistake in packaging.
Competitiveness
I've used staedtler mars lumographs for years, yet these are somehow a better variety for me.
You won't notice the sheen unless you are literally comparing it right next to a heavy application of soft charcoal.
This is a way different pencil than other brands.
I hope i’m not the only one that wanted to see a comparison between these and the faber pitt-matte set.

It is just me expecting it to do something i wanted it to do and doesnt do but actually there is nothing wrong with these if that is what you desire

To get the deep black a lot of pressure is needed which then makes blending and erasing nearly impossible

They are nice dark as dark as cretacolor neros darker than faber castell matte but not as smooth as either you can feel just a bit of grab on the paper

You can erase but minimally smudgingblending with stumps or tortillons is also minimal but that helps make sketchbook drawings stay less messy
