Cons
The “ground” base is so rough it looks like it was dragged down the road! Blade cutting edge is out of square about 1/32! I have bad vision and could easily see it was way out without using a square! Honestly quite ridiculous.
Highlights
Quality
This low angle block plane has all the features needed to adjust to do excellent smooth shaving, especially cross-grain.
The adjustable mouth feature works quite well and i've been able to take some beautiful fine finishing cuts with it as well.
Flatten the sole, sharpen the blade and work on adjusting the blade for desire shavings.
Good as received, much better once shop sharpened.
Price
This plane is fantastic for the cost.
Competitiveness
Lots more competing products exist, but dollar for dollar, i don't regret this purchase.

This is to replace an earlier model of same stanley plane that fell onto concrete breaking the cast adjusting mechanism

This model is much weightier and although i am a hobby wood worker it seems to be of tradesman quality

Yes its true that you could get a much better quality plane from lee valley or lie nielson but you be paying considerably more for it

I should mention that i spent a bit of time with some sandpaper and a flat plate flattening the bottom of the plane

It came fairly flat but it needed a bit of a tune up
