It is too bad when an american icon trades quality for quantity, profit for professionalism. The new version is definitely more cheaply made. The printing on the tap is very blurry—doubled up in places—making the tape very hard to read.

The picture clearly advertises made in usa. What i got said made in thailand. The hardware city's description is misleading.

Metal tape measure is droopy as well. The tape is not the same width and the thing on the end thinner. The old (non-metric) small leverlock i have is vastly better in all respects.
