Pros

Great value for someone that may occasionally need a chisel. Way better price than going to a retail hardware store. Many negative reviews for tools come from people who don't know how maintain or prepare the tools for use.

The beveled sides are fatter than most, but this will make them stand up to * better. Has a very high quality feel, and heft to it. Excellent for shaving down lumpy wood.

Cons

Steel is very soft and the edges will deform even on soft wood. The 1/2 especially looks serrated. Fairly sharp when new, but edge rolled over with just slight use on douglas fir.

All cheap chisels and planes require some sharpening before use. The one without the gouge is very dull. That's ok for the occasional diy or homeowner.

The steel these are made from has some chromium for rust resistance, but not enough to prevent rust entirely. Ya, i just went to the garage and compared; these look worse than some of the tools i was looking to replace!

I have found these to be excellent quality chisels.

But like everything else in the world, the quality offered by stanley in this instance has definitely dipped over the past 3 decades.

The handles feel like hollow, blow-molded toys, and surely don't fill me with the same sense of security i got while handling that old set.

Packaging/appearance

I only give it 4 stars because they aren't as sharp as i would have expected coming out of the packaging.

Out of the box, the cutting edges are a flat ground bevel (as opposed to a hollow grind), which would make them harder to touch up.
