Pros & Cons
Pros
The picture is of the planed boards glued and clamped, and the finished top. The weight is acceptable, but truth be told i'd like the plane to be a bit heavier.
It takes some tweaking and adjusting out of the box and a little refining of the blade and you're good to go. It's not a lie-nielsen but the bottom line is that it does the job.
Cons
Very poor machining. My guess is that these are churned out in china along with a lot of other cheap tools. The older stanleys are a dream to use-- this one is garbage.
The tote (rear handle) is cracked at the base. The knob is loose, the bolt securing it is tight but the knob is apparently shorter than the bolt. The iron and frog are flimsy affairs, if you ask me.

The problem with the handle is that it was injection-molded with the seam right down the centerline where it can irritate my hand.
Not up to the quality of my old stanley plane but works great.
Price
The stanley plane is about half the cost of an excellent plane.
For the $60 it cost me, i think i have a several hundred dollar #5 jack plane now.
Shipping
The price was very reasonable and shipping was fairly quick.
Edit: i contacted stanley after posting this, explaining the problem with the photo attached and within a day they emailed back... Read More
Packaging/appearance
It's obvious the plane came down a production line and it's also probable the next plane off the assembley line is a lemon.
But did cut good right out of the box.
The blade was scary sharp right out of the box.
Competitiveness
Need to sharpen the blade on arrival, but not bad for the price.
That time has passed in the usa.
