Pros

This is well built and hefty. It is built like a tank, and should last a lifetime.

The starrett delivers with the usual starrett quality and accuracy. It is repeatable and accurate to 1/64th of an inch. The movement feels very solid, and the readout is very clear.

The fractional-reading dial is a boon, with conversions being unnecessary. The thousandths reading is also there on the dial, but you don't need to convert it. It's easy to eyeball 1/128 as the halfway point in-between the larger graduations.

Starrett, as an american firm making entirely superior products, deserves the support of all of us. This superbly made item is without doubt one of the most-used tools in my shop. Don't let a novice anywhere near this tool.

Great product, comes in perfectly useable case. The sturdy case makes this a job site tool. Its operation is smooth, and the case protects it well.

Cons

This (bad) review reflects pricing not functionality. Boy, i hope this instrument is accurate. Not clear in online material or caliper itself.

Buy a cheap, disposable, caliper for them to use.

I guess that's the trade off over a manual sliding caliper that cost $10.

My only complaint, is that it's too expensive to leave lying around or try to stick in my back pocket, so i have to always use the case.
