I did have to use the auxiliary power cable to use a 2tb wd my passport external hard drive.

I plan on using a msata solid-state drive through a usb 3.

Definitely faster than usb2, not as gas as factory installed usb3.

I have a 54mm express card slot, but this item comes with an adapter.
