Pros

Very easy to install drive. Comes with screws and a little screwdriver.

Usb 3 enclosure with uasp is great. Works well for mu 2. Good speed, no stutters, and no issues with connectivity or reliability. Great speeds on a rmbp and samsung evo 850.

There is no power switch and once plugged in, it powers on and connects in a plug and play protocol. One caveat. The special usb 3. Y-cable (usb 3. Is required to connect.

For $20 it offers great performance and portability. This is a kind of flimsy cheap plastic enclosure that works. One complaint is that it seems really cheap -- it's just a shiny black plastic tray.

I carry it around in my back pack, daily, nestled in a pocket, and it's fine. It gets hot but i think that's the nature of hard drives. My one gripe for this $20 or so enclosure is it is made of thin plastic.

This is my fourth version from them and i have been quite impressed by the manufacturing quality of these products.

My real concern with this device is the quality of the plastic enclosure - i’m not sure it’s going to make it through the long haul.

With no moving internal parts, it is less likely to mess up, and it is fast.

And with this enclosure, the wd hard drive is hitting read/write speeds that are almost as fast as the sandisk extreme.

It's not nearly sata iii fast (since it's not a sata iii drive), but fast.

Packaging/appearance

I haven't had any problems except for bad cables out of the box for a couple of the startech.

Installing the kingston ssd inside the startech enclosure was extremely easy and from there it was just plug and play.

Competitiveness

Great speeds on a rmbp and samsung evo 850.

You get much better speeds out of it than a regular usb 3 enclosure (close to, if not, sata ssds top speeds of 500ish mb/s).

I did a crystaldiskmark test and saw a sequential read speed of 117.

Update (-1 star):the usb cable connection, after much use, is always dropping due to a design issue on the connector inside the case.
