You might have to deal with bios issues, but that has nothing to do with the cord.

Computers these days don’t have disc drives so you sometimes need a modern solution

The drive would not work on my apple macbook or mac mini with just the one supplied mini usb cable

This is due to the drive needing more current for the laser burner than is supplied by one usb port
