I had tried to use a usb to vga adapter for that purpose and found that while that was a good option for windows it didnt work at all with linux

Shortly afterwards i discovered that my video outputs included a displayport as well as a vga output and since this output was part of the hardware and not emulated with software there was a good chance i could add a second monitor to my computer that would work with linux

My lenovo thinkcentre computer has a problem where it will not boot up if a displayport to vga adapter is plugged in

Apparently i could fix this by upgrading the bios maybe but that isnt my idea of fun

So what i ended up doing was booting up the computer with only the vga port attached then i plugged in this adapter afterwards

If youre running windows or mac i suppose the usb solution is better
