It looks like that cheap cable was more than i had bargained originally. It seems a mini displayport connector isn't too common outside of a few macintosh computers. I was glad to find this decent adapter cable to use to connect my external display.

My wacom cintiq pro 16 finally works with 4k resolution without any visual glitches, shutoffs or other annoyances!
I have a device that only has mini-dp out, and doesn't support hdmi.
Once i received this cable all those issues went away and then some, no sluggish performance either with my productivity apps.
Price
Definitely worth it to spend a little extra.

That was a while back and when i tried it on my 4k display i kept getting flickering and clicking plus i could not get another refresh rate than 24hz at any resolution
