It does run a little hot but i bought the first one over a year ago and it hasn't failed once so the quality seems up to scratch.

This is possibly because i am only using two extra monitors with my sp4, but i can only speak to my experience with the hub.

Competitiveness

I'm running two 27 qhd monitors from a single displayport output on my dell laptop's docking station.

So far so good driving two 1920x1200 monitors off the surface pro 3's dock.
