Pros

Good open bare-bones equipment rack. Bought this for my home lab.

The included casters are great to be able to move the rack around a little or a lot once it is assembled and loaded down with weight. They now include 2 extra bolts & washers per size.

The unit is very sturdy-- although i don't have much on it. The thickness of the steel members is exactly what you would expect in any enterprise server room. I have no doubts this rack could hold a ton of heavy gear if needed.

Disassembled and reassembled. Felt like putting a lego piece together, but easier. Although the ikea-style pictorial instructions are a little bit confusing at first.

Cons

Review based on poor instruction. Missing the bottom cross member rail and one of the adjustable side rails. Had to run to the hardware store and get $50 in hardware just to put the * thing together.

The steel frame members are heavy, and they are packaged only in a single, thin layer of cardboard. The packages kept ripping open, exposing the steel and scuffing the paint off.

I'm impressed with the build quality of this rack for the price.

I don't think it'd matter, but the instructions don't really specify and the diagrams are pretty low quality.

With the parts in hand, i finished building and started sliding my equipment in.

Shipping

Makes a good size package for the shipping gorillas to show their buddies how fqrg they can throw the box.

And i didn't have the same shipping issues as other had either.

Shipping - racks are heavy snd typically expensive to ship.

Packaging/appearance

I didn't have any issues with the packaging and all the parts arrived as expected.

I commend star tech for the organized packaging of the small parts and the fact i got 2 extra screw, nuts than are needed!

Possibly there has been a packaging change!

Some people have complained about the packaging and losing parts and damaging the frame but my package arrived safe and sound.

Competitiveness

I have 12u space used up and no problems so far.

As a matter of fact i got my own 8-year old child to help me tighten all the bolts, and she had a great time doing it!

We have used startech products in the past, but this is the first time we purchased a 4 rail rack.

It can hold double or more weight of equipment than the competition.
