I tried a few of these dp or hdmi to vga adapters and so far this one is the best.

With a pixel clock of ~375mhz this is the best vga digital-to-analog converter that's still being sold today.

It also has the best contrast compared to all i've tried, giving distinct blacks and whites all the way from 001 to 254!
