Pros & Cons
Pros
This is my 4th startech item i have purchased over the last 8 years. Their post sales tech support is rare nowadays, and this value added service for an out of warranty item is what makes startech such a great company. This device is simple awesome!
Cons
Took it apart and found the issue, see the pictures. However the target disk fails to boot and clearly has errors. The duplicator had changed the drive partition to gpt protective partition which then you need a recovery program to the recover data th... Read More
This review comes from 10 months of ownership. The dock is hit or miss about even mounting a drive. After seeing the inside and the crazy cheap looking weight thing in the bottom is what makes me wonder if it is a knock off.
Not the case. Here's why. But that is the gist of what happened. Not for me.
Highlights
Quality
It produces an accurately cloned and working disk every time.
An excellent solution to create offline storage of project data sets with a 100% mirror.
This double dock/duplicator heats up hard drives even more than the single docks without fans do.
So hot that you cannot hold a drive that's been active in this dual dock in your bare hands!
Price
My inexpensive, inland pro, 256gb drives were copied repeatedly in 14:30.
For the money, it is a great buy.
Shipping
Received the amazon package around 3 in the afternoon.
Customer service was quick to diagnose and sent a replacement (2 year warranty).
Packaging/appearance
Opened the box and set up the startech on my desk.
I really wanted to make use of this dual dock for the added video file storage to feed my mypin media player so i experimented ... Read More

I did not initialize--and that was not necessary with the wavlink (less expensive but more cheaply built) product.
I tried acronis, disk drill, aomei and none of them would allow the 20 tb clone to expand to the full 20 tb.

Update 7152024 i used this startech to clone from a 6 tb to a 20 tb drive
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
Even after entering the windows disk management system i could not get my computer to recognize all of the 20 tb disk space
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
It would not allow my computer to 34expand34 the drive size those who use windows 1011 will know what im talking about
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
It does say however that a new drive should be 34initialized34 before putting it into the disk cloner
