Pros
It is convenient that no external power pack is needed. Great addition to my mobile office equipment. Has a blue led light too which is lit when a usb device is plugged into it.
Cons
This negates efficient use with a macbook. The more recent version of the sanwa 4 port hub also has a slimline adapter so it only takes one slot in the power bar. It's probably a good product, but i'll hold off on a usb hub for the time being.

I bought this device along with the longer cable i have also reviewed.
The power indicator didn't light up either from battery power or with the ac adapter, so the hub was absolutely dead and useless.
Competitiveness
I find startech products generally pretty good.
I plugged in 4 different usb accessories using usb3 devices and they all worked fine.
In my own experience, startech makes good products.

Ive had other ones and the cord was like a foot long and was going all over the place
