The upright position is probably best for heat dissipation. Just like your cpu, the aluminum heatsink draws out the heat and the fan blows it away.
It works as advertised. Item performs as expected. Once u do it it works like a charm.

Quality
The build quality is excellent, it comes with all the screws which is great and not as common as i'd hoped.
This goes well with the startech pexusb321a 2-port usb3.
Do your homework before ordering any computer product.
It is worth noting that these are transfer rates between devices and have nothing to do with the read/write speeds of hdds and ssds.
Price
The price is nice and it's very useful as an external drive setup.

With a hard drive (or even an ssd) you will not realize even close to a 10gbps transfer rate, but the speed is impressive nonetheless.
1 pcie card, but i initially tried this on a new pc with a usb3.

Not positive its the enclosure but the device does seem to randomly lose its connection to my computer no lose cables hard to say

Decent case but the fanless design and good aluminum chassis is defeated by using a plastic tray that cant conduct heat away from the drive like a metal tray would

If im nitpicking id make a different choice on the power switch as the slide switch seems a bit fragile
