The only strange behavior is that on all 3 machines the ports did not install in the order they are numbered on the back of the adapter

So on the computers port 3 was mapped to the port labeled as 4 on the device

As soon as i plugged in the unit to my pc windows automatically searched the internet downloaded and installed the required ftdi driver

Unplugging and replugging the unit didnt change the sequence so this unit must have com retention capability

My original one had a malfunction com3 and startech replaced it in a moment of notice

The only complaint is that the installation instructions were a little misleading about how to install the software but the bottom line is you ask windows to search the cd for the drivers and after a longish delay it pops up a list of 3 candidates
