Pros

Works flawlessly in windows 10 off a usb 3 port. Because the computer is also configured as dte, you need the null modem feature that this cable provides. Worked perfect when used to communicate with programmable equipment requiring a null modem.

I personally use this to manage my vintage hp 48sx calculator inside an environmental case that has a rs-232 male connector on the outside. This eliminates another bulky serial port tester.

Cons

The fatal flaw in this product, sadly, is the mechanical design of the rs232 cable itself. Be forewarned. I have no clue what the leds on the 9-pin connector are for.

Linux detected it as /dev/ttyusb0 without resorting to the driver cd that startech ships in the box.

Competitiveness

It has the ftdi chipset, which is better than the buggy prolific chipset.

I tried another brand adapter that didn't work well with my weather station.
