There were these long thin gouges up and down the flat surface of the stone at both vertical and irregular angles. I expect after some time with a fixing stone or nagura it would be fixable but ideally i’d be able to use my stone out of the box.

This should be the last stone in your progression for sharpness just after using a 1000 grit stone
