Pros & Cons
Pros
Backpack has good straps and supportive chest and waist straps. It has a whistle on the chest strap, which is something i look for in any outdoor/recreational backpack.
The cookware is super nice and would also be pricey on its own. No spills, leaks or breaks in the perishable items.
Sustain's customer service is top of the line. Luckily my water and electricity is back, but i am under a boil water notice. The precipitation was coming from the north and the buildings kept the wood from getting wet.
This kit is good as a starter 72 hour bag, or for someone who doesn't want to take the time to custom make a pack. The pack feels sturdy and well built overall. I'm used to hunting packs that are built to pack more weight and distribute the load a bit... Read More
This kit is a current version that is on the sustain. Com website. The other stuff you’d want to add (ultralight sleeping bag, ultralight tent, respirator, clothes) are all stuff you'd want to customize anyway. Added a tent and will add a few other it... Read More
Cons
The misinformation in these sorts of items is extremely dangerous. The food was supposed to have a sustainability of 30 years, mine expires in july of 2035. The total calorie count provided is 3,180, barely enough for one person for 3 days.
Highlights
Quality
Fixed blade knife is high quality and well made.
Led lantern is well is innovative and easy to use; simply pull up and it turns on.
- lamp (4 aa batteries)- flashlight (4 aaa batteries)
Add batteries for your lights and that first aid kit is not enough stuff.
Price
I purchased this thinking at this price point that i would have to replace a lot of the stuff but wanted to use this as a start... Read More
Overall though, i'm happy with the purchase, especially for the "used" price i got it for.
Shipping
I've got plenty of stored calories on my body for 3 days (lol).
It arrived last night, so while i've unwrapped it and worn it around the house i haven't used much.
I've gone 3 days without food, and once, 5 days.
My kit was missing the whistles and they shipped them out to me when i contacted them about it.
Packaging/appearance
Everything was packed nicely and organized well into the backpack.
The 4 water packs came in a sturdy box to protect it.
I packed the collapsible bowls and sporks (spoon/fork on each end) inside the bag with the portable stove and pot which still h... Read More
It would be easy to pack it in and pack it out with little noticethe included meals are crowd favorites.
Competitiveness
Another difference from the old version: it had mountain house meals.
I understand that this may be due to the whole situation with most of these companies being sold out or have very limited suppl... Read More
