A circular ring fixed to the body detects if the body is not close enough to the square position and if the laser pendulum contacts the ring it flashes indicating its not aligned

The pendulum can be locked in place to allow you to align it in any arbitrary angle for reference

Setting a level line requires the whole unit to be moved up it down to match the desired level it cant be just angled upwards

A tripod with a crank adjustment would be good for this otherwise you have to shim it up to the desired level
