I was able to get one of them back up, but lost autofocus ability, so i returned the product.
No warranty information from tamron came with this product.
Price
The cost is about the same for the older version and about $1200 cheaper than the new 80-400 lens so there is real money involved.
Packaging/appearance
The images will be a little bit softer, but you will still get more detail then just cropping an image without the teleconverter.
Competitiveness
Note my wife purchased for her nikon d7000 and nikon f2.
I use this with my nikon d600 and 80-200mm f/2.
Only downside is loss in f stop, but that is a known quantity with a teleconverter.
I tried it on my t2i, with lens ef-75-300mm f/4-5.

This kind of sucks because i have to keep changing back when i take it off the camera and if i am in a hurry to get the shot i might not think to change it right a way but looking at the image preview its obvious the exposure is way off
