Pros
Once you've practiced this a few times, operation becomes quite easy. The dr07x is a bit on the pricey side. Otherwise very happy with this purchase.
Built-in speaker, but recommend a plug-in headset. Very sensitive mic. As for using it as a usb mic, it works good.
The stereo sound quality is excellent. It always sounds crisp and clear through the on-board speakers. I am still amazed at how good they sound.
Recordings are timed during both recording and playback. Date and time-stamped automatically. Works for old-timey open-reel peeps with 3 or 4 mikes.
Easy to use. Spares you the effort of finding the right usb connecting cable, then having to navigate through the tascam to your computer. Especially if you have an auxiliary sd memory for your computer all you have to do is click and drag. Takes up t... Read More

For the price of this unit, and as it already includes the two moveable [l+r] "directional" condenser microphones (w.
But honestly, for this price and the versatility, this thing's hard to beat.
Competitiveness
I needed a recorder that could capture lectures and conventions and could do a better job than my sony.
It is still the recorder i tend to grab, but it's a shame tascam didn't shield the circuitry better.

As in if you have any wifi device within 3 feet of it your recording will sound like a geiger counter is going off next to the mics

If you can control your environment it produces excellent quality audio but for a field recorder thats not always going to be the case

The microphones do pick up everything and i do mean everything so i did have to use some audio editing software to pull out just the sounds i needed but that was quick and easy
