However if you are using xlr mics then you must use it in mono mode as you will get so much hiss that your recordings will be unusable

Controls are intuitive well i have been using the dr05 and that is intuitive as well onboard speaker on both the dr05 and this one are not great in fact you are better using earbuds or headphones that way you will hear the full sound quality that this recorder delivers

I struggled with another market leading digital recorder utter failure but with the tascam i was getting decent recordings within minutes of opening the box and a few hours later successfully recorded some samples of a local choir

Cant remember external mic option for when i do invest in a mic which i surely will eventually but it still gives me an option of higher quality audio than for example recording sound directly from my camera or a phone or something like that

As it does all that i need from it and more with the added bonus of 2 xlr inputs for a stable connection check youtube for instructional videos some are very helpful as the instruction manual does not make things clear enough
