Pros
Tascam dr-40x is a portable audio recorder with a built-in microphone and xlr condensers. The battery life is over 12+ hours on the 3x eneloop aa batteries i use in mine. The microsd card seems to work even with my 128gb card.
Cons
Binaural mics make a ground loop-like noise unless you ground yourself to the device by touching the mic capsules or by wiring yourself into the headphone jack. No line level signal support, only microphone level, that's bad as attenuator. No phantom ... Read More
Playback is very poor. My daw program is audacity it never saw the tascam.

I receive this only a few days after ordering especially during this pandemic and very happy with the fast delivery.
Amazing sound quality, good channel separation for solid stereo sampling.
Using the external speakers the sound quality is very thin.
Recording quality is good when you play through earphones but the built in speaker is of poor quality.
Price
To practice voice is a good choice and good price
Competitiveness
I use it with a 128g micro sd which gives it seemingly infinite recording capacity.
Perfect for me as a asmr streamer to record sounds and for travelling.

The build in xlr jacks with phantom power is a cool feature but the noise floor is a bit noisy esp with dynamic mics

I prob only recommend condenser xlr mics with this recorder

Usb also powers the recorder in interface mode so you wont drain your batteries while using it

I do agree with critiques that the quick start guide in the box is inadequate for the serious useryou need to download the full reference manual from the tascam site to learn about all features

Caveat it is billed as a 4 track recorder and indeed it is but nondestructive overdubbing works only in stereo mode the 4channel feature is cool though as it allows you to use the internal mic which is excellent and the external inputs simultaneously and lays down separate files to mix down later as you wish
