Pros

This seems like an incredible value with no real downsides i can find. There is a volume control for those on the front which is very convenient. The knobs feel pretty solid despite being plastic.

The software based mixing interface is easy to use and well laid out. Very helpful for routing inside of ableton live. I use this extensively for home recording and it works great. Works very well plug and play on my imac sounds clean.

Cons

The tascam us-18x08 is a piece of garbage. The sound quality and build are both quite good, but the interface is ultimately unusable. The driver frequently hangs up or drops out and you have to restart the computer. Asio supports all in/out channels, ... Read More

Quality

The build of equipment is solid and the angle up seems simple but is very useful.

The software based mixing interface is easy to use and well laid out.

The mic preamps are only present on inputs 1-8, and the resulting signal goes straight out from outputs 1-8 on the rear panel.

The large amount of inputs means that i can set up stereo inputs, mikes, direct inputs, whatever i need, and leave them all connected!

Price

For half the price, i got a great product that was up in running five minutes out of the box.

This is absolutely the best bang for your buck.

I am blown away with being able to have 16 inputs on such an inexpensive device.

All the interfaces sound pretty much the same unless you want to spend some major $.

Competitiveness

I have used apogee, lynx, other high-end hd converters/interfaces and this one is just as good.

This is a much better product than the scarlett at less than half the price.

I've also got the focusrite 6i6 and its not as good as this tascam.
