Cons

Software is terrible once it did work. Apps nonexistent and unavailable for download. Boasts ability to use externalurl to access nas behind firewall but externalurl returns 0.

Dont let the better hardware specs trick you. The description of this item says 2 concurrent 4k streams. This is not possible, even with the max ram for the system.

I think this nas should be able to handle anything i throw at it due to its specs and upgradable ram.

This is actually a good thing, because if the device is stolen, the data will be inaccessible.

And at the time you could not beat it for the price.

Overall this is a great value and i plan to add a d6-230 das to the system to give me an extra 6 bays of storage.

Delivery was quick and the setup took about 20 minutes.

Hopefully future units will ship with that already installed.

Packaging/appearance

Though the hard drive i bought on the same order came in a paperbag, the nas was packed very well.

Competitiveness

Beyond plex, i use the f4-423 for various other tasks, including file sharing and docker containers.

It was between the terramaster, synology, and qnap, even looked at the ugreen as well.

I have an aversion to companies who want to limit my choices, and terramaster is not like that.

I bought the 2 bay f243 to replace an aged and failing nas from another manufacturer.
