I think it's that they are cheap ones and once the write cache ran out they run at somewhere around 15mb per second, very slow.

5gbe nics is 500mb/s so no big deal.
Competitiveness
Would be nice to have a 10gb port but its $250-300 less than the competition and is essentially a regular pc board.
