The bristles are very sturdy and not wimpy like most are. It has the firmest bristles iv'e ever used. Nice firm bristles but not too firm. I like this because the bristles are tough and the handle is short.

Brush upward toward the heart. It feels great and very invigorating on my 68 y/o back. It reaches all the right places.
