There's plenty of explanation in plain english on everything a beginner should know. The author has a way of speaking to you in a casual, conversational way. It is thorough but concise.
All of the information is very well sectioned out into chapters, making the book easily digestible. Some books deal with that with bump-outs and other formatting gimmicks.

The platform is. Net, but covers the c# language nicely. Net details. This includes programming a game with monogame, etc. Net framework.
Cons
The 'players' guide only has two games described in it. The last one, the game of life, has nearly zero documentation. I wish the author's need to discourage hadn't cost me money.
