In this case, it has to do with trotty the porter's doubts about his daughter's future.

I am only moderately familiar with the list of charles dickens works so wasnt aware that he wrote a handful of stories for christmas about the time he wrote a christmas carol

So the story was actually difficult for me to get into at first particularly as i adjusted to the writing style and voice of the story

The thinking of the merchant and upper classes about the poor left me amazed and not in a good way

Though perhaps less impactful than a christmas carol and slower to an ultimately weaker message there does exist that message eventually
