At the start this book takes a little effort but once you let yourself be carried away with the discworld there will be no going back for you

Divided into four sections it tells the tale of the discs first tourist an insurance salesman called twoflower who hires the cowardly failed wizard rincewind as his guide

All the elements of pratchetts style are there but its a book far more concerned with parodying fantasy novels and films than with telling its own story

If youve not read the source texts and all are books that were a lot more popular in the early 1980s than they are now then quite large sections of the book just appear to be cheesy fantasy rather than knowing parody

As the discworld series developed pratchett quietly jettisoned quite large chunks of the lore he established here
