I was able to see the value of those mistakes for character growth unlike some ya novels where you just sit there scratching your head wondering why tf this level of stupidity needed to be in the story

Since we see everything from starr’s pov we can get asides and commentary which set tone for other characters and a lack of detail in other people motivations
