The translations are not especially pleasant to read as the translators in this language have to spend their entire energy on presenting what is plausibly accurate

It seems like every bookstore has at least one book that contains the epic of gilgamesh or a book that describes and discusses it

On superficial reading most of these books seem to say or imply that the gilgamesh epic is the worlds oldest literary work and that its text comes from ancient sumer

From the 11 books of the epic we have only five relatively brief segments preserved from the time of the sumerian culture itself and they are noticeably altered in the texts transcribed by akkkadian scribes

The range of subjects and of styles surprises me it shouldnt because the sumerians were of course as much distinctive individuals as we are and wrote just as distinctively from one another

The collaboration of editorstranslators did not disable the piece effort and terminology was consistent throughout

What i did not like about this book was the use of semiend notes at the end of each piece and the fact that the poetry was rendered without meter
