Pros & Cons
Pros
The ancient martians are mirrors of us; both good and bad - but more what we wish we could be. In his usual beautiful language ray bradbury paints a tapestry of the history of human colonization of mars.
While this book is lumped in with science fiction, it transcends the genre. Some of the stories are standard scifi, but many others are a mix of fantasy and weird fiction out of pulp fiction magazines of the early to mid twentieth century. I believe t... Read More
The only overarching story arc is of the long term event of colonization and decline told in a nostalgic and ethereal quality; much like a fairy-tale.
Most of my favourite books are written by ray bradbury. Bradbury is a consummate wordsmith. Everyone knows they never existed.
Cons
Any blue-blooded reader despises abridged editions. After “purchase of kindle edition, it gives you the table of contents and tells you you have to pay for book at $3. Would be nice to know before downloading.
Bradbury's attempt at shoehorning them into science fiction fails utterly. The dialogue is so rooted 1950s vernacular, it seems almost a parody of all american awe shucks. Bradbury relentlessly dumps on humanity while holding martians up as paragons.
The book is a jumble of confused stories about the various attempts by people from earth to inhabit mars. The martian chronicles is dated at best, contrived at worst. And, martian chronicles are poetically written.
Highlights
Quality
The quality of writing is matched by a rich imagination and a fine sensitivity to the human psyche.
It is a compact and well-made paperback and i highly recommend it!

He came to our house and read stories at christmas time.
Packaging/appearance
The book came in excellent condition, with no bent or torn pages, either.
Competitiveness
It is more positive than orwell and quite charming, as well.
Bradbury uses descriptive words and phrases is simply amazing.
Not that it can't work both ways simultaneously but bradbury's focus is something like 90% on the people, what they do and why.
