Pros & Cons
Pros
The martian chronicles is a collection of short stories written by ray bradbury about colonizing mars. The ancient martians are mirrors of us; both good and bad - but more what we wish we could be. Bradbury's novel gives us an unusual but interesting ... Read More
Boyett's narration is strikingly reminiscent of the old 1930s/1940s radio dramas bradbury, himself, loved. Bradbury makes some very keen insights into mankind's (stressing the man part) faults.
Smooth cover, nice pages, and good printing. His performance is masterful. Received in timely maner.
Cons
Bradbury's attempt at shoehorning them into science fiction fails utterly. All of the dates bradbury used in the chapter headings have been changed, rendering the cold war/atomic age context of the book meaningless. The dialogue is so rooted 1950s ver... Read More
Any blue-blooded reader despises abridged editions. This is censorship now, destined to become public book burnings later. I'm very much against book censorship and would want them to update it to leave the book to it's original intent.
The martian chronicles is dated at best, contrived at worst. The book is a jumble of confused stories about the various attempts by people from earth to inhabit mars. Martian chronicles has been extensively altered from the original and classic martia... Read More

Perhaps this has as much to do with where science fiction went as a genre after rb had written these stories but this approach is exactly the opposite of what a contemporary reader would expect

The book is really a sequence of episodes so there are no continuing stories of individuals

The book is terribly anachronistic but with bradbury that does not matter for some reason

I think bradbury does the opposite in his stories he creates plausible people and the worlduniverse illuminate them

Not that it cant work both ways simultaneously but bradburys focus is something like 90 on the people what they do and why

Very few little science fiction written during the period bradbury was writing these stories is readable without irritation but with bradbury they are as readable as the day they were first published
