Pros & Cons
Pros
This is not a towering achievement of literature, but it's much more than the source of a screenplay adaptation. I was grateful for the film because it led me to an unforgettable read that had me up all night.
Patricia highsmith’s writing is so good you can’t but feel every nuance along with them, every last bit of yearning, every pang of disappointment. The price of salt is one of highsmith's best efforts.
The movie carol was based on this book. Every time i read it, i can only see cate blanchett as carol aird. That is the happiest ending of all.
Therese belivet is a younger woman who works in a department store during the busy christmas season. Carol’s sacrifice and bravery is so much clearer than in the film too.
Cons
We only see carol shrouded by therese’s expectations for her. Carol is mean, brusque, vague, and altogether uninteresting.

Anyway in spite of all the strange things i’ve heard about patricia smith i’ve got to say that this was a wonderful telling of a love story that prevails despite norms that at the time it was written were considered to be unacceptable or even outrageous

I guess she published the book originally as claire morgan as an alias due to it’s obvious lesbian topic
