Pros & Cons
Pros
Works great. Bought it for reliability and features, the excess capacity is just a bonus.
This controller works very well for a non-mppt unit. For rv applications this is great so that you don't partially drain your house battery before the sun goes down and charging stops.
Cons
If the charging current should fall during equalization will the device resume this mode when it (charging current) is adequate? No reference or instruction is given for this. What was delivered from renogy solar via fedex was 3 panels and kit accesso... Read More
Please, do yourself a favor, and avoid this craptastic piece of garbage. I have other brands that have lasted longer and cost less. Apparently the have no problem selling know questionable product.
Highlights
Quality
I like the quality and consistency of the unit!
Quality appears to be as expected - have yet to install.
I will be moving up on controller quality and get one with manual parameter settings and go exactly with what my battery maker recommends.
Packaging/appearance
I know the reviews of this entry level controller are a mixed bag but i received the renogy wanderer as part of a solar panel kit.
Competitiveness
I hooked this up to a 150w panel and it charges my batteries without any problem.
I use this controller on my whitewater raft to handle the output of a renogy 60w solar panel.
I did not see the point of running a 20ft cable to the inside of the trailer and a 20ft cable back to the battery.
For some odd reason in heavy sunlight with two renogy panels in parallel somehow overvolt this controller at 19.

Gel batteries should never be equalized and when the wanderer is set to gel type the renogy pdf manual says there is no equalization charge

So you either have to set it on gel type battery or remember to totally disconnect the wanderer prior to 28 days so their us no power in the unit and the internal program goes back to 28 day countdown

On more high end controllers the owners set all the parameters of charge stages and equalization according to what the battery manufacturer says

Trojan says not to equalize unless absolutely indicated by hydrometer unequal readings and my battery manufacturer states the same

The wanderer only equalizes for 2 hours and that is a light equalization but it still is an overcharge that my large lead acid batteries are not recommended to have because it will shorten battery life

The parameters for gel batteries are not to different than flooded lead except there is no equalization overcharging so i think i will set mine on gel type even though they are flooded
