The osprey has elastic strings on the back that allow to downsize it or attach something external like a sweatshirt but while it sounds like a good idea i never used it in the 3 years i owned my osprey and it looks busy of course you could cut those out

The hook is handy for the gym locker and the side pockets that look somewhat awkward in the photos are actually unobtrusive in 3d
