Pros

Tivo is not just a dvr, it is a super-intelligent dvr. The machine seems great, like every other tivo i have owned -- about 6 of them over the years. Tivo has great customer service and deals very fairly with people.

Skip mode is wonderful. Skips commercials instantly, no more tapping the 30 second skip.

Cons

For recording purposes the tivo bolt is close to worthless. It is nowhere near as a reliable or intuitive as the old device. No lights at the front whatsoever.

The bolt has a ton of problems relating to streaming content. It is awful at my cabin for ota and streaming media. Most shows you may be considering to dvr may be available through one of the streaming services i mentioned which leads to this question... Read More

Official forum has more spam posts than actual answers. Their offshore phone reps simply say to power cycle the device. Their chat reps say to call the phone reps.

The promotions offered to me are incompatible. If i go in through the 2 way mentioned above, it asks me to pay $2. I was charged a $250 deposit and sent another bolt. Best they’d offer is an exchange for a refurb for $160.

I have several channels that can be scheduled vi the pass manager, but there is nothing there to record. After a day my tv tells me i have no signal! I have an amplified splitter which has not helped.

So honestly i don’t understand the reviews that complain about the 15 buck monthly subscription.

Downside is monthly cost, but to me it's worth not having to watch commercials and mindless tv.
