The white and light pink does allow you to see patterned underwear through them so they are only for under dresses but the darker colors blue green black dark pink do not show through and i let my daughter wear them by themselves

I would not wear these were they show aka as actual shorts so if you are looking for something that you would wear out even with a long tunic or shirt over it this isnt the product for you because its too thin and i dont think it provides the coverage you want especially for the lighter colors you can somewhat see through them like tights
