I bought a software program with the new pc which was supposed to transfer files from the old directly to the new pc and it didnt really work in the sense that i ended up having to buy an external drive ed to use as an intermediary with that software meaning the software took my old pc files copied them to the ed then copied from the ed to the new pc

Only problem with that was the files on the ed had some proprietary file extension so the ed files were not readily accessible as backups

Long story short i bought the toshiba canvio ed and very simply copied files from the old pc to it and now have easily accessible backups to all my old files on it

Excellent way to back up all photos without cloud storage which i dont trust
