At a $239 price tag it's certainly worth every penny.
The chromebook is great, i bought the first one for $212.
I wouldn't just get a new one it it cost $800 to have a decent new computer.

I sent it in to toshiba under warranty and they did fix the issue very promptly but they didn't replace the screw.
Packaging/appearance
They work great and were packaged well.
Competitiveness
If you're willing to work within chrome's capabilities, it's a great machine, and the value is even better.
More and more people are using it + many times calls to landlines are free or cheaper than on skype.
Chrome os does a lot of other things if you do some research, such as running android apps.
