The device is just plug and play and works out of the box.
Competitiveness
Just plug the adapter into a usb2 or usb3 port (no extra speed advantage when using usb3), install the driver and it is good to go.
I had a medialink one that i used more until it died.
After my opensuse box's wireless kept on dying perfectly synchronized with kernel updates, i went out and got this wireless usb adapter.

My only complaint is that it occasionally fails to initialize when i turn the computer on but all i have to do is unplug and reconnect it and it usually hooks back up
