Updated review, 6/18/2017, fathers dayssd hard drive failure after 5 months.
I was using a more recent model mac with a 1 terabyte mechanical hard drive, and it had become unbearably slow over time.
Price
It was not cheap but the extra capacity was definitely needed.
Shipping
Talked to amazon but since it was sold by 3 party vendor i will have to wait 24-48hours for the vendor to respond by email.
Packaging/appearance

256 was the other brand, and i would give it 4 stars, but this one is just slightly higher build quality in the external case.

I tried disc utility by hitting command r during start up but the macintosh hd was greyed out which is a sign that theres a problem with the hard drive
