For this price, this is great for beginners. They fit my needs exactly. About the asterisk in the headline, they clearly state in the listing that it uses the ch340 usb to serial converter.
Highlights
Quality
A great deal, for a quality board with the bonus wire holes.
But there are many solutions out there so i tried this product.
Price
It works, price is low, no harm no foul.
These arduinos work great and a good price.
Competitiveness
So i tried ftdi driver instead and it works well on my windows machine.
Many(overseas ripoffs) used to just use ftdi clone parts but ftdi put the foot down on illegal clones.

Using arduino with ch340 usb chip is not as convenient and straight forward as the one with 16u2 original design from arduino

I couldnt get it working after try installing every ch340 driver i can find on the web

However when i look carefully at software messages i realized that for unknown reason the computers think it is ftdi chip

There is no markings on the usb chip on device so i cant tell if it is ch340 or ftdi
