Pros & Cons
Pros
Zyxel consistently exceeds in the performance department. Prices are bouncy and coming down. There's an online price alert that will email you whenever this or any amazon product dips below your target price.
If your router does not have enough cable ports, this is your answer. Purchased this 8 port hub to replace two hubs and a wireless router behind my media center. I have a cable of about 100 ft running between the router and the switch.
It is small, compact, uses very little power (less than half of my previous linksys unit) and looks great. The metal case is a nice touch compared to plastic. This one is sturdy. It is used in my htpc cabinet.
Trendnet green - 5-port gigabit tp-link green - 8- port gigabit. I use this for branching a feeder wire for my home theater system and it works like a charm. Turns one feed into many. Can also be used for tp.
Cons
Used it for about 1yr. Days after connecting it, it shuts down my whole network - including the wireless network and wants a password, of course, i don't have and never had.
Highlights
Quality
So far, as price-to-performance ratio goes, i am happy with the product.
I did transfer some large files just to try it out, though, and was pleased enough with the performance.
Everybody loaded the same as it always did, the picture quality was the same as it has always been.
Over ten years savings pay for the cost of the product.

The price was the motivator for me the buy this switch.
Solid construction, works as advertised and the price was amazing, much cheaper than in the retail stores.
The cost is so low i can get that kind of backup insurance at a very low price.
The price is also very low for what you get.

I recieved the trendnet switch, unpacked it and powered it up.
Competitiveness
I have several trendnet switches and they all have worked reliably.
- uplink vs regular socket, 10mbps vs 100mbps transfer rates are all auto-detected so you need not worry about them.
The switch is connected through a cat-5e cable to a remote gateway approximately 60' away.
I have this wired to a trendnet tew-647ga 802.
